Buttermilk Biscuits | The Novice Housewife

This post on buttermilk biscuits and homemade egg mcmuffins was supposed to go live on Father’s Day. It even started with this line: “With Father’s Day today, its only apt to post this recipe.”

But as you might have noticed, it did not go live on Father’s Day and instead on a Tuesday which I generally reserve for indian food as part of my Garam Masala Tuesdays series.

It is never to late to honor the special man in our life- who is there no matter what. And I dont need a single day to make my father know how much he means to me. I have mentioned this before as well, he is one person who always goes through my posts. Reads them, comments on them and then later sometimes even talks to me about the post. And no matter how mad he is at my decisions, he is always looking out for me and supporting me the best way he can.

Recently a one star review on my business page on zomato (an indian website on the same lines as yelp) just reconfirmed my belief that most people these days are reviewing for the sake of appearing cool and just do not have the patience to understand somebody else’s situation.

So the whole thing started on the Monday that went by. I had an order that I was busy working with. My phone was in the other room on charge. Generally if I am working on an order I do not keep my phone with me, because while baking I know I can not take a call lest I forget all about my cake in the oven. And sometimes while rushing through orders it becomes really difficult to attend phone calls. The moment I get free I call the people whose calls I have missed. If my phone is with me I message in between saying I am tied up and will call soon. That day though my phone wasn’t on me so I only saw the calls an hour or so later. On calling the first number I had missed two calls from, the person on the other line informed me that she had already placed an order with someone else for a cake. I said no problem, hopefully next time. I called the other number and it turned out to be the same person. This time I apologized and explained that I was busy with an order and again mentioned that hopefully next time I can bake for her. All this happened in a span of one and half hour of her initially trying to get in touch with me.

The next thing I know the said caller had left a one star review on Zomato saying that I had shitty customer service and that I was misguiding people with a phony address. I have no idea what she meant about a phony address, because no where I have mentioned my address just my locality. I do not want to put my home address on a public forum for obvious reasons. And just because I did not take her call she goes around slandering my business and my customer service. I get it. It can be frustrating trying an establishment number and have no one pick up. But I am not an establishment with a customer service team. I manage everything from baking, decorating, accounts, handling clients on my own. Besides trying to have a personal life as well. Even after explaining this to her that I was a home baker and I do not have people to attend my calls as a reply to her review, she replied that I never apologized to her for missing her calls (which was not true and even if it was, did that give her reason enough to slander my business with shitty customer service?). After that I saw no point in paying any more heed to what she had to say.

Stuffed Mushroom and Spinach Pizza Bread | The Novice Housewife

Wishing all the readers of The Novice Housewife a very happy New Year and lots and lots of good food like this stuffed mushroom and spinach braided bread.

2014 was not too great blogging wise. I did not post as often as I would have liked to. I wasn’t  even able to visit my favorite blogs and see what my favorite bloggers were up to. I got 52 posts up which if you aggregate means one post per week, but in reality it was only the first half where I was active and the past few months hardly saw this space getting much action- maybe one post a month. In 2015, I want to change that.

A lot of new exciting things happened in 2014. It was a period of a lot of stress as well. A lot of decisions were taken, changed, re-taken and then stuck to, with a lot of apprehension. One of the biggest change was The Pink Cakebox (only after coming up with the name did I realize there was already a pretty famous pink cake box in US, which is pretty stupid on my part since being obsessed with cakes I should have known. But I went ahead with it nonetheless, since I couldn’t turn back- mine has THE and its in India so I am hoping nobody gets confused. Yikes!) More about TPC (The Pink Cakebox) in another post because I think it deserves a lot of of explaining to do. But yes 2014 was the year it came to existence (a dream five year in the making). You can keep up to date with that chapter by liking its facebook page or following me on TPC’s instagram.

That’s essentially was (and still is) what kept me busy most of 2014.

This new venture also introduced me to new people- and I realized complete strangers can be so helpful. The experience made me wiser, at the same time made me doubt myself on multiple occasions. But slowly I am gaining confidence and growing and learning with each order. The whole ordeal of the past few months has made me a much stronger individual. And I am very grateful to the people I have in my life- my family and friends who made me stick through it and picked me up when I was ready to give up. And I have needed to be picked up a lot of times.

I moved back to India also last year. Temporary for now. While V was busy with his MBA I needed to sort out my life and pursue my passions more seriously. 2015 will see how it all unfolds.
