Serves: 16
Ingredients
  • ½ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp sugar (or ⅓ cup if you want to make sweeter buns)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2¼ cups bread flour/maida
  • 1½ cups whole wheat flour/ atta ( I have interchanged and used 2 cups whole wheat and 1.5 cup flour successfully. Feel free to adjust water to accomodate for the increased amount of whole wheat flour- the dough should not feel dry)
  • 2 tbsp wheat germ
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
Instructions
  1. Place water, milk, egg, ⅓ cup butter, sugar, salt, flour and yeast in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Combine water, sugar and yeast, let stand 10 minutes to proof the yeast. Add in the milk, melted butter, flours, wheat germ, salt, egg and knead for 7 minutes in your stand mixer attached with a dough hook.
  2. Once the dough is smooth, cover with a warm damp cloth and let rise for about 1 hour (or until it doubles in size).
  3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Make 16 rolls from the dough. Brush each roll generously with the belted butter. Cover with clean kitchen towel and put in a warm place, let rise 1 hour.
  4. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden.
