Crepe Cake

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Yup it happens. And lately its been happening quite a lot.

While more often than not I share recipes that have worked, I have shared my failures on the blog as well. Carrot cake truffles, macaron cake – cases in point. And today I will share another one.

This crepe cake with nutella frosting.

An utter failure and waste of delicious nutella buttercream frosting.

Well……not an utter failure because it still found a way into our stomach. We as a family hardly ever waste food. And so we still ate it. Only difference is we did not relish it.

Failures are always very disheartening especially when you have spent quite a lot of time flipping more than 20 crepes. Very disheartening indeed.

The crepes seemed fine fresh out of the stove (or atleast that’s what I thought), but I could only assemble the cake the next day since we had company half way through the flipping, so I kept them in the refrigerator covered overnight.

The next day after I finished frosting and assembling and eating it, I realised what a waste of time all of it was. And a waste of lovely, delicious and most probably in short supply nutella.

The crepe cake just did not come out the way I thought it would be. The crepes were dry and rubbery. And not like the time I had first made them. Or the way they turned out in this post.

I don’t know if it was my mixing, or it was the refrigerating, or just the plain fact that I was out of practice and screwed up somehow.

People sometimes tell me why do I call myself novice because I cook/bake so well (their words, not mine). To those people, instances like these are why I still call myself a novice. There’s a lot out there for me to still learn.

I have bookmarked and read through a few links for my next adventure in crepe cake making, but if you have any tips, please do share. I would really appreciate it.

Here’s a list of links with tips that might help me next time:

And since I needed a reason to blog, I will just leave you with the pics today. Hopefully next time the pics will accompany a recipe.
