What I have been up to!

View of Toronto city from CN Tower

I know I haven’t been the best with keeping the blog up to date and its been two weeks since my last post. Yikes! Sorry about that! Even though I am kind of aware that you didn’t miss me much but for the sake of my own happiness I’ll assume that you did. Its always a good ego boost if you think people miss you (even when they don’t) and these days any kind of ego boost will do for me.

If you read my last post, you would know I started a cake decorating course at Bonnie Gordon College.

Last week was the first week of classes and while I love love love the school, the teachers, what we get to learn, piping, decorating etc etc it was a very, very intimidating first week for me.

The dummy cake I practiced on.

A lot of my classmates are people who already have a running business or have sold some cakes on the side. So the first week, I just felt so lost, which made me feel so flustered during classes. I kind of had a breakdown as well and was telling V I do not know if I was cut out for this course. The course thankfully is designed in a way to accommodate beginners, but it can be intimidating if you don’t have much experience, especially when your other classmates do. The key is not to compare yourself with others and that’s what I have been trying to do. I have always been a little competitive, but in this particular situation it would be really foolish of me to compete with the others. Instead, now I am aiming to learn as much as I can and am hoping I get better as we go. Either way I love it that I am learning so much and when not under a time pressure, enjoying myself to the hilt.

My first fondant decorated actual cake ever!

This was supposed to be a multi loop bow but it did not turn out as it was supposed to :/

The worst part of the course is the traveling though. I am staying with my mom’s brother and his family and its a two hour walk-bus-subway-bus-walk journey from his house to my college. My uncle did drop me off the first week, and picked me up in the afternoon when I had a cake to carry, but yesterday I thought of bussing it to college in the morning as well. Which meant I had to be out of the house before 5am! Its not the ideal situation but it did give me time to draft this post on my phone.

And since I was doing that, I thought of making it a theme of sorts and am posting a couple of pics I have taken of Toronto, its suburbs and around. All these pics have been taken and edited on my phone, so please excuse the quality!

Fireworks at Niagara Falls. Taken the day I arrived.

Ship docked at Toronto Harbor. Taken on Canada Day.

The path I take everyday from my bus stop to my uncle’s house

The bench next to the pathway. Its always empty. Probably because it is so hot!!

Run down house on the way to my cousin’s work, on Elgin Mills

By the way, I just freaking love the sky here in Toronto. I have always been a cloud kind of a person, and can admire them for hours, but the sky and the clouds here in Toronto are one of the prettiest I have seen.

Toronto Harbor

Elgin Mills

Sunset, Richmond Hill

Residential area, Markham

Orthodox Ukranian Church

Besides the clouds, I just love the electricity poles everywhere surrounding the city. And love clicking them. So excuse me again if you find too many pics of those.

And then there are the trees and the grass. So much greenery. Well, after Arizona anything would seem green, but the yellow and white flowers in between the grass growing wild just make the whole place that much more pretty. And the drive to my cousin’s work place is absolutely scenic with yellow wheat and green maize fields .

Last week also saw a lot of rains in Toronto, causing floods and power outages in the city, but it did make a for a pretty Toronto!

And last but definitely not the least, here is the Giveaway winner. Im really sorry for announcing the results so late but well, better late than never, right!

Congratulations Margot!

I have sent you an email as well. Please let me know when you receive it!
