So today, V plucked (actually snipped) these two beauties from my hair. Some call it a mother’s blessing but seriously I would prefer blessings in another form. V says its a sign of maturity. I think its a sign of becoming wiser. (Why else would judges wear white wigs, if that’s not what its supposed to mean.) The strange part, one of the two white hairs I plucked was actually still dark brown from the roots, but white at the tips, kind of like it decided mid way that it preferred being dark brown rather than white.

In India, we have something like the evil eye, we just call it boori nazar (which literally translates to the same), and V and I have come to the conclusion that’s what has happened with me (well, I came to the conclusion, he just agreed :/ ). My hair has been a target of an evil eye (most likely, its my own evil eye, but lets just pretend it’s not).

So I have actually been harping about how good my hair is these days (or so till recently I thought to believe) and that I can actually last 15 days without shampooing it and they still look and smell like they have been washed.

Now, people in India perform this ritual to remove someone’s “boori nazar” if they feel that a person is being affected by it. V, who knows how to remove this ill-effect has very graciously offered to perform that ritual for my hair. The only glitch is that it can be performed only on a Thursday, and since its Friday today, we will have to wait for a week to de-evil-eye my hair. :/

Till then, this is my game plan after hours (and hours) of research on the internet.

  • To use a lot of cumin, turmeric and black pepper in my cooking as they are supposed to be “hair-friendly” spices. (I already do that but I think I need to increase the quantity).
  • To start sheersha asana (the headstand asana), even though I fall every time I try. They say (or at least that’s what V tells me) the headstand asana is supposed to be great for your hair as it increases the flow of blood to your head. And at this point I will try anything.
  • To rub my nails of the opposite hands against each other, since some say that also helps in preventing greying. Like I said, I will try ANYTHING.
  • And of course warm oil scalp massage two or three times a week, vitamin B-12 supplements and brushing my hair 100 times before bed time. (Google says all of it will help)

I also read on the internet (the things you can find on the internet these days!) that applying onion juice to the area on and around your white hair will prevent further white hairs from sprouting in the same place, but one has to do this regularly and patiently since it will take some time for its effects to show.

So if you see me rubbing my nails together and reeking of onion juice, you know why. 🙂

And before you all start making old lady jokes at me, let me tell you this as well. A single or two white hair does not mean the end of the world. And at 28, it might not mean that I am going to go all grey anytime soon. It could mean that, but one can really not conclude so with 100% certainty. Or so I read on  this forum (google is a godsend).

If you are young (like me; yes, 28 is young) and are having white hair woes like me, I suggest you check it out as well. I particularly like the person who says he/she had his/her first white hair at 16 and now that she/he is 27, has a grand total of only four.

So I am going to be OK.

And anyway, I have this cutie to cheer me up. So to the evil eye I just say, shit happens, and that’s why they invented tequila! 🙂

P.S: By the way if you have become a hair nerd like me you can check this article out which has great hair facts from around the world, like how people in Lithuania think that soaking your hair with the first rain in the month of May makes it stronger. May is around the corner. Mark your calendars and let me know if it works you. I will update you about my results.
